Jean-Marc holds a Master’s degree in public law from Université de Montréal. First elected to the National Assembly in 1994, he won seven elections and held many ministerial positions including Municipal Affairs, Education, Justice, Sport and Recreation, as well as Canadian Relations and Canadian Francophonie. He has also held the role of strategic advisor as the Government House Leader, and advised leaders Jean Charest and Philippe Couillard for their campaigns in 2008, 2012, 2014 and 2018. In 2012 and 2013 he served as interim Leader of the Quebec Liberal Party and Leader of the Official Opposition.
Over the course of his political career, Jean-Marc developed a keen understanding of the Canadian reality. He is the man behind Quebec’s affirmation and Canadian relations policy: “Québécois, notre façon d’être Canadiens.”
His diverse professional experience has allowed him to develop his skills in strategic planning, public affairs, stakeholder relations and issues management. Jean-Marc is particularly interested in matters of social acceptability and socio-economic realities in both Quebec and Canada.
